Legal & data handling

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Salmisson handles personal data when you visit salmisson.com or send a message through the contact page.

It describes what is collected, why, how long it is kept, and how to make a request about your information.

Who runs this site

Who operates this site

Salmisson is an editorial navigation resource covering road map navigation in the United Arab Emirates. We compare navigation apps, explain official location systems, and write practical route notes for drivers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the other Emirates.

The site is operated by its editorial team. There is no user account system, no newsletter, and no paid tier — you can read every page without registering. The only personal data we ever hold about a reader starts with a message that reader chooses to send us.

Questions about privacy, corrections, or data requests go through the contact page, and our editorial office answers them during working hours.

What we collect

Information we collect

There are two moments when data reaches us: when you write to us, and when you simply read a page. They are handled differently, and the difference matters for how long we keep things.

When you send a message

Through the contact page we collect only what you type: your name, your email address, and the content of your message. If you mention a route, a device, or an app version in the body of the message, that text is stored with the rest of it.

This is the minimum needed to read your message and answer it. We do not ask for a phone number, a national ID, or a billing address, and there is no field on the site that collects them.

When you read a page

Our hosting and analytics tools record standard technical information as pages load. This can include your IP address, browser type, device type, the pages you viewed, and the time of your visit.

We read this information in aggregate — which guides people actually finish, which comparisons they jump between — to decide what to keep updated and to spot problems such as broken pages or automated traffic.

What we never collect

We do not ask you to create an account, we do not run a newsletter, and we do not collect location data from your device. Nothing on this site reads your GPS position or your saved places.

If a future page ever needs more than this, the change will appear here first and the updated policy will carry the new date.

Schema note for readers who work with data protection: contact-form entries are the only data linked to an identifiable person. Everything else is technical and read in aggregate.

Why we hold it

How we use your information

Messages you send through the contact form are used to read your message, reply where a reply is needed, and act on corrections or route suggestions. That is the whole job. We do not add your address to a marketing list, we do not send follow-up sequences, and we do not sell or rent the contents of your message.

Technical information collected as you browse is used to keep the site running, understand which guides are useful, and detect problems — a page that fails to load, a route table that visitors keep abandoning, or automated traffic that is straining the server.

If you write in to correct something, we may quote an excerpt of your message inside the site once the correction is published, but only with your wording and only when you have agreed to it in the thread.

That is the entire list. If a new use appears, it will be written into this section before the change goes live.

Cookies & disclosure

Cookies, sharing and disclosure

Cookies and similar technologies

The site uses cookies and similar technologies — small files your browser stores when you arrive, and reads back on your next visit. Some are necessary for the site to function; others help us understand which pages visitors read and how they move between them.

You can manage or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Blocking some categories may change how parts of the site behave, and in rare cases may break a feature that relies on remembering your preferences.

The cookie policy lists the categories we run and explains how to control each one.

Sharing and disclosure

We do not sell personal data, and we do not pass the content of your messages to third parties for their own marketing. Both of those statements have been true since the site launched, and they are not conditional on anything.

Limited sharing does happen with the service providers that keep the site online — hosting and analytics providers in particular. They process data on our behalf, under agreements that limit them to running the service, and they are not permitted to use it for other purposes.

We may also disclose information where required by law, or where it is necessary to answer a lawful request from a competent authority.

How long and how to ask

Retention, rights and requests

Data retention

Messages sent through the contact page are kept only as long as needed to handle the request and any follow-up. Once that work is finished, the message is deleted or archived in a reduced form — the thread trimmed to the fact that it was answered, not the personal detail inside it.

Technical logs are kept for a limited period for security and site maintenance. Retention periods vary depending on the type of data and why it was collected, and where data is no longer needed it is removed rather than left in place.

Your rights and how to make a request

You can ask what personal data we hold about you, request a correction, or request deletion. To make a request, use the contact page and describe what you need. There is no fee and no form to download.

We respond within a reasonable period. In some cases we may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request — usually by replying to the address the original message came from — and in limited circumstances we may be unable to comply where the law requires us to keep certain records.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security, but we keep the data we hold minimal and protected in proportion to what it is.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in how the site operates or in applicable requirements. The current version applies from the date it is published on this page, and continued use of the site after an update means the revised policy applies.

Current version published 2 October 2026.

Contact and related reading

For any question about this policy or about how your information is handled, use the contact page and mark your message as a privacy request — those are handled first. If you are here because you want to check a claim we make about an app or a route, the pages below are the ones that carry the substance.

Ask us anything about how your data is handled

Written requests are welcome. Tell us what you need and we will answer it from the editorial office — no forms to download, no account to create.
